Hearing Stephen Hawking Sounding Like Someone's Grandmother #Science #Space

Cool generic picture of a spacecraft which does not appear to be sufficient to colonize anywhere.

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has warned yet again that humans should leave Earth and explore other planets to avoid doomsday.

Speaking at the Starmus Science Festival in Trondheim, Norway, Stephen Hawking stressed the necessity of one day leaving the planet due to climate change and dwindling resources.

“I am convinced that humans need to leave earth. The Earth is becoming too small for us, our physical resources are being drained at an alarming rate,” Hawking said, as cited by British media, adding that there is no more space on Earth to overcome a new crisis.

Building starships should help no end with alleviating a problem of dwindling resources, right, mates?

“If humanity is to continue for another million years, our future lies in boldly going where no one else has gone before,” the 74-year-old said, noting that humanity is about to enter a new era, in which “colonization of other planets is no longer science fiction, it can be science fact.” Hawking added that there is no other option.

The moon and Mars would be a perfect choice for colonization, the 74-year-old scientist believes. He appealed to governments to focus on creating a lunar base in 30 years and one on Mars within 50. The scientist also called for a moon mission to be launched by 2020 and for sending people to the Red Planet by 2025.

Do you see a mention of a plan which does anything whatever to reduce use of dwindling resources?

The Rockhouse is fed-up with quoting his bloody defeatist rubbish.  Getting melodramatic about the need to do it because we'll die if we don't cuts zero ice with the Rockhouse since the ones who stay behind, in that model, will die anyway.  Thanks, Steve-o, and all the love in the Universe to your silly ass as well.

That kind of absurdist rave generates some sound bites for the news but nothing with any particularly valuable content.  You know how it goes and have done for years since we stop the endless wars and have the Future ... or we don't.  The Pentagon is trying to provoke a war with Iran right now to extend that obscenity in the Middle East so it's your call whether there's ever any Future since the Pentagon clearly doesn't care.

It may be that Hawking's histrionics get attention because people are so wired for sound.  (Science Daily:  High anxiety: Americans among most tense people in the world, survey finds)

You know that's true intuitively and triggering is the word trolls love to use when they set it off since it's so pervasive it's relatively sure you will trigger someone somewhere with just about anything.

Humans will solve multiple problems at the same time ... because we fuckin' can.  You don't need me to prove that; you just need to start believing it again.
