Crosswind Landing - the Premium Edition (video)

There was a bit on CNN the other day which showed part of an A380's crosswind landing at Düsseldorf but the report was so stupid it begs for the real story.

Tip so you don't sound like you're from CNN or were raised by wolves:  Düsseldorf is pronounced 'doo - sell- dorf.'

The Stoner Recommendation on this one is it goes really cool or holy fuck we're all gone to die.  You spin the wheel and you take your chance.  We don't think any of these aircraft crash.  At least we don't think so.

HD video for yer stoner amusement - Crosswind landings and also take-offs.  As crazy as flying ever gets.

Note:  this is the same airport at which the A380, biggest passenger aircraft in the world, had difficulties and which was featured, pitifully badly, in the CNN article.

Crosswind landings are not uncommon and some airports are more prone to them than others because, we're guessing, the contour of the land or so.

Inside the aircraft, I don't think you would know there's a crosswind situation until the plane jerked somewhat as it came around to a forward attitude when its wheels touched the ground.  I suspect you wouldn't notice much apart from that other than obvious turbulence and the motors singing like an opera star.

It seems the logic for this kind of landing is similar to that for an aircraft carrier:  land the aircraft under nearly full power so you can blast right off again if anything goes wrong.  As you'll see in the video, sometimes it will.

(Ed:  when did you ever pilot an aircraft?)

I read, man.  I've flown all kinds of aircraft.  Ha!

(Ed:  stoners can read?)

Amazing, isn't it.  We read a lot.  We like trippin'.

Hendrix read a lot of sci-fi.  Now you know.

(Ed:  that doesn't make you Hendrix)

Sho' enough but it doesn't rule it out either.  I say again.  Ha!
