The New iMac Pro is a Confirmed Beast #Apple

Apparently that's the iMac Pro ... which looks like either of the iMacs in the Rockhouse but there's more.

The iMac Pro is coming. The most powerful iMac ever made is also the most powerful Mac ever made. It will ship with an 8 core Xeon processor. And a 10 core. And an 18 core processor, for those looking for “ludicrous speed”.

It will also have up to 11 teraflops of single GPU compute power. It can deliver up to 22 teraflops of half-precision computation, which Apple says is a ‘really big deal’ for machine learning. The machine will have up to 4TB of 3gbps of SSD.

The new iMac is a monster – it’s going to cost you over 7 grand to build a comparable system (without the 5k display) – Apple wants you to pick yours up with the starting configuration for just $5,000 – in December. We agree – it really is badass. This is a developing story, we’ll update with full specs soon.

TNW:   The new $5,000 iMac Pro is an absolute beast

For any monster Mac Pro I have owned previously, they could easily push ten grand and the iMac Pro for five grand isn't on the top but the whole class of them is wicked powerful and the eighteen-way is just completely insane but the Rockhouse loves insanity.

The machine would previously have immediately triggered MAS (i.e. Mac Acquisition Syndrome) but that's really not part of it now since Final Cut is delivering snappy rendering performance on my videos and Compressor has been splendidly brisk in transcoding as well.  Most other compute-heavy aspects of my use of the machine are relatively trivial in comparison so my current iMac will serve just fine as it has been.

I'm still stalking that iPhone 5s and it's close but no sausages at yet.

Unknown on the origin of 'no sausages' as it came from my ol' Mother and it didn't really need an explanation when she said it.
