A Private Church Police Force or Citizenship in Iran | How Do I Decide

You haven't heard a bad idea like this since the last time OctoMom said she does not have enough kids.

Ed:  did she ever say that?

No idea

Briarwood Presbyterian Church already has more than 4,000 members, two private schools and its own radio station. And if administrators have their way, the wealthy congregation could soon add something that no other American church has: its own police force.

AP:  Church cops? Congregation eyes its own unusual police force

How about them apples, Ayatollah.   You ain't got nothin' on Birmingham.

Ed:  it must be a white church since it doesn't look like the KKK ever firebombed it.

Roger that.

The bill was introduced by Republican Rep. Arnold Mooney, whose wife and daughter work at Briarwood Christian School. All three of his children graduated from Briarwood schools.

"Officer presence is the No. 1 line of defense," he said in an email.

In a police state, it's probably easy to believe that but there's no evidence of it.  Given the monumental volume of crime in America, any idea cops prevent it is ludicrous.  They apprehend bad guys but they don't even come close to preventing them most of the time.

"The sole purpose of this proposed legislation is to provide a safe environment for the church, its members, students and guests," the church said in a statement.

Church officers would be trained to state policing standards and have all the duties and powers as other law enforcement, but they will be confined to the church's sprawling grounds in the suburb of Vestavia Hills, plus the church's secondary school in nearby Shelby County. The bill would allow Briarwood to hire as many officers as it wants.

Co-sponsor Rep. Allen Treadaway, a Birmingham police captain, said if a wealthy church can attract and retain officers, let it do so.

This initiative is such an outrage they don't even try to pull such a stunt in Utah, the acknowledged nadir of Western civilization.

You could have let them win the Civil War and then you would have been done with those lunatics but ... nooooo ... you had to keep them around and look at what a pain in the ass they are.

Thanks, Lincoln.  Great plan, asshole.

Not quite sure why just training their own security officers does not fill the same need.
Does this allow Google or Microsoft to form their own on site police dept.
Not to mention this is a reverse of separation of church and state
Will they follow this with a wall around their property as the next form of protection and post armed "police officers".

How this is Lincoln's fault is a very far stretch.

Scary some of the ideas people that have too much time on their hands come up with.

Partiality makes a huge difference. Cops are supposed to be the impartial ones who defend the law regardless of color, creed, etc. Cops are state ground and the church has no business stepping on it.

Lincoln is the one credited with doing so much to hold the Union together. Otherwise Alabama would be part of the independent South and we could bomb it.

Mention of Google / Microsoft adds a twist but I think they get by because they call them security patrollers but not cops. Possibly.

That is my point the church needs no cops just security like big business uses.

I'm fine with security but church cops are a different creepy realm
