You Say You Like Opals? How About Some Fire

There's something mystical in opals and with fire opals most of all.  Mostly we see gems and jewels as the women's version of power tools.  OK if you go off to buy that pickup truck, big spender, but I want a damn rock when you get back and it better sparkle.

Mostly that's all we see in rocks as, yep, that sparkles alright.  You like that, yes?  That's all we need to know.  It's different with fire opals, tho.

Unknown where it was found but many turn up in Australia.  It's also unknown how much a jeweler must cut and polish the stone to bring out all these colors.  It seems like a crystal ball of psychedelia and you could see just about anything in there.

There's a semi-naked woman with bushy dark hair at the center-bottom-left next to the big blue splash.  Plus there's a duck in the top left.

Another because a world with the Grateful Dead needs something like this.

One more because it must have come from outer space.

No idea what these must cost but the professional assessment here at the Rockhouse is 'a lot.'

Opals are fairly cheap as gems go.
I polished some for Mom that I gotin raw form in the Phillipines. Very easy to work with. I had a jeweler mount them.
Who knows where they went.
There is a hotel inside an active mine site in Aussie land where you are allow to dig the walls and keep the stones.
Dark fire opals are among tbe prettiest out there tjey must be worn to hydrate themselves or one must replace the lost moisture to prevent color loss.

I heard something of that liveness about them which it seems makes them a bit like those Japanese toys which die if you don't take care of them. I didn't know about the ones you polished and I'm not even sure I ever saw them but I'm sure they looked grand. Mostly Anne gave that stuff away some while back I think.

She tried to send her pieces to the right people. I got her a beautiful piece of dark green jade as a japanese coin. Ol Dad took it and put an Aztec style gold trim.
She sent that to Rhonda
I am guessing it will end up around the neck of the Fairy Princess.
I just got a fire opal at the Smithsonian Museum for her last month( it was a butterfly)

Now that jade piece I do remember and that was a pretty thing.

No idea how a fire opal turns into a butterfly but that sounds like it could be quite beautiful.

I get that with diamonds as they don't do anything for me. Yah, sparkly ... great. I really dig opals, tho. I would wear one and would claim it connected me to spirits in another dimension but really I just like the colors.
