Düsseldorf, King of Cross-Wind Landings, and an Emirates A380, Largest Commercial Aircraft | Terrifying

Maybe you're not familiar with a cross-wind landing so that's a situation when the wind is blowing so hard against the angle of the runway that the aircraft needs to approach the runway almost sideways.  The pilot then straightens the flight just at the point of touchdown so the aircraft can continue down the runway.  It's got to qualify as the scariest thing in flying.  Fortunately for me, I never experienced one but it seems they happen frequently at Düsseldorf.

This time it got even scarier since the aircraft skidded and, to repeat, that's the biggest commercial aircraft and it's skidding across the runway.  Whatever respect I had for Emirates pilots prior to seeing this increased enormously.  You can see how much they're actively flying the aircraft to finesse it to control and they did a superlative job.

The A380 carries about four hundred or more passengers and I bet every single one of them now has serious questions about flying ... ever again.

Düsseldorf has a notorious reputation for cross-wind landings so hopefully the passengers had been warned or were aware already.

So what's your thinking about unmanned piloting for commercial aircraft after seeing this video.  You already know that's their design but there are now four hundred of more passengers from that flight who are not so likely to go along with the idea.

People probably will believe eventually but it will take a lotta provin' to get there.  Show me it works.
