The Effect of Legalizing Euthanasia in Canada One Year On

Presumably this is a picture from a euthanasia clinic.  This solution is effective but it's not my personal ideal because that would take place at home.

The biggest surprises to Canadians have been how well the change in the law was received and how many availed themselves of the service despite its relatively restrictive nature.

RT:   Almost 2,000 Canadians euthanized in year since legalization

An interim report released by Health Canada on Friday, which is tracking assisted suicides, revealed the increasing popularity of assisted dying among terminally ill Canadians.

A total of 1,982 people resorted to the controversial practice since June 2016, when it became enshrined in a federal law. The figures included 803 people in the first six months, and 1,179 in the second.

That people responded to it so quickly shows, at least to the Rockhouse, there must have been a substantial latent demand.  Probably to little surprise a great deal of that demand comes from cancer patients since the terminal phase is long, painful, and pointless.

Cancer was found to be the leading medical condition prompting patients to seek an assisted death, which amounts to some 63 percent of all cases.

Neuro-degenerative disorders, respiratory and circulatory system failures were also among the top reasons prompting sufferers to choose euthanasia.

It's probably also no surprise that I would choose this option if it were available in Texas.  I would not choose it at just this minute but it would be a tremendous relief if I could avail myself of it at the time of need.  The prevailing Ithaka theme remains to hang with you as long it's possible and reasonable to do it.  There is no depression on the matter nor there any change to my view of things.  My observation is regarding a solution which Canada and other countries are using and that solution if offered here would become immediately important.
