Elon Musk Can Solve the Electricity Problems in Puerto Rico

Musk, the CEO of electric-car maker Tesla (TSLA), suggested his company's solar power unit could be a long-term solution.

"The Tesla team has done this for many smaller islands around the world, but there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico," Musk tweeted Thursday morning, adding that the decision is up to Puerto Rican government officials.

CNN:  Can Elon Musk fix Puerto Rico's broken power grid?

Confidence in Elon Musk's ability to solve the problem is based on the fact he has done it before and more than once.

Puerto Rico's response was immediate:

"@elonMusk Let's talk. Do you want to show the world the power and scalability of your #TeslaTechnologies? PR could be that flagship project," Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló tweeted Thursday night.

A Tesla-powered system would be a complete reversal for Puerto Rico's energy grid. Right now, the island imports and burns oil to generate electricity.

This is exciting news for the Rockhouse since it's the implementation of future technologies in projects which go far beyond test systems and demos.  Musk's ability to bring future technology in multiple disciplines at once has been consistently stunning.

Confidence is high that he can do this:

Tesla has built solar energy grids for islands before, such as Kauai in Hawaii. However, that island's population is about 70,000 people. Puerto Rico has 3.4 million residents.

Elon Musk said at the top there's no scalability limit to the system so there's every reason to believe the success in Kauai will extend to Puerto Rico.  There's additional reason for excitement since energy costs are part the problem in killing their economy.  This type of radical solution offers the potential to break away from an old oil-based energy system to this new one and thereby save a ton of money.

The Elon Musk solution could bring exceptional things in multiple ways so the Rockhouse is most excited to see it.
