Before the grand unveiling, keepers have been working non-stop since May making sure the pandas are well-fed and cared for, Xinhua Net reports.

‘The number of cubs born this year shows our preservation and breeding techniques have matured,’ the centre’s deputy head, Zhang Hemin said.

The fertility and survival rate of cubs at the centre reached 87 per cent and 95 per cent respectively this year, Zhang added.

Better breeding technology has seen the number of giant pandas boom from just six born in 1983 to 273 this year.
