Usually thoughts of Big Hair today go to the Eighties with the big hair bands and all the awfulness that engendered but Big Hair had come and gone already well before them. You can see from the caption on the picture it was shot in 1968 and this wave of Big Hair was gone by the end of the Sixties.
Zen Yogi: No. 1 on the left looks like she has the nuclear explosion hairdo
It must have been a sign of the times, mate.
Zen Yogi: No. 4 looks like the hippie girl with her bangs and and straight tresses
Maybe the others saw her as the rebel.
Zen Yogi: or evolution in action
That too, my furry bear buddy.
I have had this picture sitting about for some while as I considered whether I will do anything with it. I don't know the ladies pictured but they represent an extraordinary time of change and one which is almost forgotten. It was also the time when older women would have their grey hair frosted (?) pink or blue and that probably sounds twisted now but it was the style then.
There's a Threshold of Ridiculousness we cross at about twenty to thirty years after events take place after when those events had been happening but now they're just bloody ridiculous. It may not be a comfort knowing things which are happening now will be rubbish in thirty years just the same.
Zen Yogi: more evolution in action?
So it goes, mate.
