Millenial Discussions

So as we made our second journey up to the Land of Home Depot today, an interesting conversation began between myself and Sir Fixit.

Now Fixit is a man of a great many talents. He is intelligent, handy around tools and a generally nice guy, He is also good to conversate with.

Harley: it sounds ta me like ya like 'im hehe

Seraphin: don't make it weird Harley

Now Fixit is a good friend whom is one of the ones who helped spark the evening that so happily began my journey with Her Majesty the Lady Raven and I will not soon forget that, but further he is quite handy with tools and is quite handy at remodeling as he is no stranger to the task.

Now The Lady Raven and myself have been giving the castle a nice new touch up and thankfully Fixit has been on hand to help, so now that you have a bit of the backstory, the matter at hand.

As we were making yet another foray into the Land of Home Depot.

Si2: youre really sticking with the kingdom analogies arent ya...

Harley: of course Si, I love and study history and focused alot on the early medieval. The Dream God was onto something with the anology and I love it.

Now as I was saying on our journey we were discussing recent events and politics and we have come to some conclusions that I shall open for your consideration.

The first being that the idea that certain topics should be taboo in "polite company" is fucking bullshit and has directly contributed to a disengagement by the populace on anything that would be considered a truly active and useful level.

The idea that as a culture we can no longer gather in civil discourse and disagree and debate one another without hatred, anger and ppssible violence, is a diservice and a problem. The idea that we can not discuss certain topics because it may lead to an argument is vulgar in itself and means we have lost something as a society.

Great societies in history have often had certain things in common, one of them is the ability to civily debate topics and to learn from one another even when we do not agree with one another. The Greek philsophers once met in open forums to debate and discuss and teach. France and our own American founders met in salons for the very purpose of debate and intellectual discussion.

This is something that should be revitalized, and also leads to our sub-topic

Now humans are a fascinating creature, we are always trying to improve and innovate. Lightbulbs, cars, technology. We always want to improve and strive for better things. Except government. Why? Why do we cling so desperately to old ideas? Should not government, the very structure which is supposed to aid in the betterment and protection of the species and populace also be constantly examined and tweaked so as to continue to strive for better?

Do Fixit and I have these answers? Well clearly, as a king, I prefer my monarchy here in Ithaka, but it is a small kingdom with little to actually govern, seeing as Dreams seldom need much governing in that manner, so in that aspect it is fine. On the grand scale however, Fixit and I agree, we do not have the answers. Not even close. We, personally might never have them, as some of these topics are beyond our scope of study so far.

We do however have a belief that as a culture, we need to reach back out for open discourse with our fellow man and never stop seeking to improve our world, and in that aspect, we need to quite the taboo topocs belief and once more learn to civily debate one another.
