"What the Great Man Saw" #Poetry

We've been climbing up this mountain
for all these lonesome years
and you all know the reason
it's not driven by any fears
We want to scale that mountaintop
to see what the Great Man saw
since that was when he knew
who Creation was really for

He could see no starving babies
nor any sign of the idle rich
he only saw the widest world
with people trying to gain an inch
of happiness and fulfillment
as is surely our measure
and those things never come
when we spend life at leisure

We've been climbing up this mountain
for all these lonesome years
and you know it's the season
to stop all those tears
We want to scale that mountaintop
to see what the Great Man saw
since that is when we'll know
we have once been here before
