Broccoli in a Pill, a Whole Lotta Broccoli #Science #Health

Medical Broccoli is somewhat akin to Medical Marijuana insofar as every other aspect of the goodness of the plant is stripped away to emphasize some particular part of it.

Here's the broccoli before all the other goodness is stripped away.

There's all the roughage which is such goodness for your guttywuts but that disappears.  Instead the focus is on one aspect of chemical behavior from the broccoli which is also particularly important.

Doctors frequently tell us to eat our greens, but soon they could be prescribing broccoli. A powder that contains concentrated extract from the vegetable could prove indispensable to people with type 2 diabetes. The extract reduced blood sugar levels by up to 10 per cent in people with the disease.

New Scientist:  5 kilograms of broccoli in a pill slashes diabetics’ blood sugar

The original article shows the basis for the science and also links back to the source journal article.  From the sound of it, if I had Type 2 Diabetes, I would be looking for some medical advice on this stuff.

Pink recently sent me a list of various foods which are banned outside of the U.S.  (Homestead Survival Guide:  10 Dangerous Foods That Are Banned Outside The U.S.)

All in all, the advice to lose the food products appears valid and you can make of it what you will from the source which you may find illuminating.  It makes no sense to repeat that work here.

The Rockhouse does have one exception for bad science and that's regarding avoiding GMO products.

Studies of the effects of consuming GMOs are ongoing, but research is beginning to reveal that they could potentially cause a wide variety of problems including birth defects, tumors, intestinal damage and even sterility.

In plain English, that doesn't mean a bloody thing since nothing is proven by it and they're only empty accusations.  There's certainly been sufficient time to make a case so this one cuts zero ice with the Rockhouse.

Nevertheless, the overall premise within the article is organic is good and living directly off the land is best of all.  Organic is often inflated in value in terms of what's organic and what's not but the general concept of living off the land is highly appreciated.  Human evolution was clever enough to select our diets for us and the modern age said processed foods are just as good but that hasn't been so good for McDonald's lately since they've been losing the market for some while.

Ed:  thanks for sounding like my mother

Our mothers tell us things they hope will keep our dumb asses alive but we didn't listen so good, did we, Dagwood.
