Paris Obscur Smokes at Cat's Art MusikCircus

Oh, there is such clever irony to this as Paris Obscur wasn't smoking at all because he has switched to e-cigarettes and has been off the regular ones for some days now.  Good luck to you, sir!

Paris Obscur sings some exceptionally dark songs on some really harsh subjects but he has a way of delivering them that makes for a very special engagement.  His object isn't to get you feeling suicidal with the black death depression of our pitiful existence but rather he takes you on journeys and you can learn from them what you will.

He wrote a song about rape for a friend of his who really had been physically raped and at first the song was too strong for her but she said it helped her.  Paris doesn't dance around with subjects like this as he takes them directly and this one he wrote from the standpoint of the rapist.  This is dangerous material and that's part of what makes it so compelling.  What keeps it compelling is the way he engages you in-between and keeps the overall flow of his set going up and down.

In another way of saying it, Paris Obscur's voice is a real pantydropper.  Those aren't exactly my words but rather they came from a friend of mine.  I have no panties so I'm more than happy to take her word for it.  He has that ultra-sexy French accent but he pushes it all over the place when he sings.  He can vary from very subtle delicacy to an extremely strong growl and all of it is musically-perfect and emotionally-tight with what he is trying to tell you.

Now that he has quit smoking, Paris is concerned about what effect that will have on his voice but I think it was both Cat and I who commented on his Wednesday show about how good his voice sounded.  From what I'm hearing, definitely lose those cigarettes.  They weren't adding anything!  That gravelly sound is still doing just fine without the cigarettes and sounds excellent.

Paris doesn't play every Wednesday at Cat's Art MusikCircus but that's the night he will play when he does.  Hopefully he will be back to sing again soon as he has a really extraordinary act and it's unquestionably unique.  His music is very much the spirit of Cat's MusikCircus.  You can learn more about Paris in his Artist Profile on the MusikCircus Web site.
