Undead Blogging the Indy 500 because Live Blogging is a Ludicrous Concept

Outstanding start for the Indy 500 with zero crashing and banging to present the first Rockhouse race in years which was not in three dimensions due to scrambled color beams on the television.

Most impressive professionalism in the drivers and crews and it looks like Fernando Alonso isn't racing the other drivers but rather the track.  He's a smart man with tremendous experience but I doubt anyone other than those blabbering announcers is not aware of that, particularly on pit road.

Yevette was pleased to see Marco Andretti is racing and Michael Andretti is coordinating from the pits but it's not clear if Michael A. is supporting Alonso and Marco A. or if he supports Alonso only.

Jim Nabors was missed for "Back Home in Indiana" since that's his song, man.  I don't even know how many years he sang that song for Indy.

The jingoism up front was regrettable but I'm sure it impressed Alonso no need.  These Americans, they put flags in the peanut butter.

All that is past and now to an extremely-long race.

That comment was one pepperoni shy of a pizza since Scott Dixon was getting his Indy 500 pilot's license at the time.  I believe he's ok but don't have the details as yet.  There was no fault since Jerry Howard went into the wall and the car couldn't be steered.  That took out Scott Dixon and he launched.  The last time I saw such a ferocious crash was at NASCAR back when cars would launch sometimes just from getting too much air underneath them or not enough downforce as you like.

The construction of those racing vehicles is superlative when a car can disintegrate like that and yet the driving compartment remains intact so Dixon walks away.  Hat tip to the builders.

After watching some more, I see Alonso definitely isn't racing the other drivers but I'm sure he's getting the measure of them.

I haven't heard any mention of femmes in the field but the last few years have been hard on female go-fasters.  That doesn't need to be itemized since crashes are a bitch for anyone but some women took really harsh punishment from them.

The Rockhouse would love it if a woman won at Indy since what could possibly frost the Indy Establishment more than that.  The last time they got smoked like that was when Jimmy Clark came to school the Offenhauser boys.  All of the cars started looking like Lotus after that.

No way I'll last through three or four hours of the race but I'll pop off an update every so often.

Each time I go up front there's another caution but a friend here said he went to Indy when Rick Mears was going for No. 5 and said there were more cautions in that race than any other Indy.  He was a little steamed.  The biggest impression at Indy is the noise.  If you've never been to big track racing, you won't even believe how loud.  Tip:  take headphones or some other protection; it's that loud.

Unfortunate to see Hunter-Reay blow up his Honda but there had been concern about whether the Honda motors would make it.  There was a clip from when the motor blew and there was just kind of a chunk sound; instantly it was over.  That's racing just doesn't cut it for something like that.

Alonso is definitely racing now and doing it brilliantly.  The Rockhouse is getting optimistic about a win but it's Indy and it's unpredictable.

Lotta bumps but zero serious injuries.  Anything with no injuries is good racing.

That was a drag to see Alonso blow but, as above, Indy is unpredictable.  There was a big smash 'em up just now and hopefully no-one was injured but it didn't look like it.  On the restart, it will be a sprint race to the end.

Rockhouse tip o' the helmet to Takuma Sato.  Congratulations on an excellent and immaculate race.

It was a fine day of petrol-infused glory today, my brothers and sisters.

Michael is the team owner and follows all his cars with his focus on the front runners.
He unlike Ferrari does not screw one driver to benefit another

Alonso have enough to worry about with Rossi as Andrettis have terrible Indy luck as drivers

We've seen the result now and my hero didn't get the plum but you know how it goes at Indy. Sato drove an excellent sprint to the end so a hat tip to him.

Yep, that's the rule of racing but I do think he drove a superlative race ... right up until the motor blowed-up.
