What's Hot on the Blog ... in Russia

Here's Google's breakdown on who reads Ithaka and Russia takes the Bronze.  The report is from this week and I have no idea what the Russians read since I have no idea what anyone reads when I only see numbers.  That's not a lament since I don't want to track anyone but I am curious as to whether one article strikes people as more interesting than another.  For example, I wrote one today about how eating nuts is a significant health benefit due to disease prevention ... but few read it.  (Ithaka:  Because Nothing is Any Fun Without Nuts)

On seeing that, I imagine Russians wonder how can Americans possibly not be getting enough nuts when it took every goober Jimmy Carter ever grew to put that whacko in the White House.

Maestro, rim shot, please.

I have no idea why Ukraine comes since there are no Fascists here.  Maybe it's like Texas and the government is run by rodeo clowns with guns but there are some way left liberals there as well.

Note:  this report isn't something I monitor on any particular basis.  I saw the color for Russia and thought, well, what's this.

Jimmy Carter wasn't able to turn the economy around domestically. He inherited the debt of over a decade of Republican and Democratic mismanagement of the Vietnam war. Since Americans typically vote with their pocketbooks ('It's the economy stupid') he lost to Reagan. Reagan managed to turn the economy around by almost doubling military spending during his administration. Carter has stood before, during and after his presidency as a man of peace. He is often criticized for his handling of the Iran issue. However, almost any other president before or after would have invaded Iran just as Bush did in Afghanistan and Iraq. It would have definitely been politically popular at the time. The American media every day reminded us of the outrage of our diplomats being held hostage. Instead, he peacefully handled the hostage issue which was ultimately settled the very day of Reagan's inauguration. Reagan's administration can't realistically take credit for the peaceful release of the hostages, but they did. An excellent book on the subject is Hamiilton Jordan's, 'Crisis'. It details just how hard the Carter administration worked for their peaceful release. Under the Carter administration there were no new military actions or wars initiated. Find a recent president other than Gerald Ford (another underrated president) that this can be said. Additionally, the peace achievements in the Middle East of the Carter administration were exemplary. Too bad, this was wiped out completely by the Bush and Obama administrations. Donald Trump says his son-in-law will be a great resource in bringing back some sense of peace in the Middle East. We can only hope.

Even now the Republicans still flog Carter but the spending increases since 1985 showed nothing they said was true. I didn't realize how blatant that was until I saw the chart. Their astounding dishonesty is always a horror but he was a bigger man and a better soldier than they will ever be due to his specifically Christian determination to find peace. The evangelicals who came with Reagan may have done more to destroy any belief in Christian percepts than anyone since Pontius Pilate.
