Thurgood Marshall was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1967 where he served almost until his death in 1993 and he was a champion for civil rights throughout his life.
Marshall was the first black man appointed to the Supreme Court and that was the most important race-related political appointment in Washington before or since. He worked assiduously and perennially for the cause of human rights which presents a radical contrast relative to some others who followed him.
Some men work for civil rights and improvement of the human condition while others militarize the police force.
Thurgood Marshall showed us people can be better than we are and much better than we have been. His life was the proof of it and his memory stands as proudly as it ever did. It's only unfortunate more have not learned from his example.
