Nuclear War for Rich Dummies

An underground bunker designed to withstand a twenty-kiloton nuclear blast is for sale for $17.5M.  Where, you may ask ... wait for it ... Georgia.  (Fox:  Take a look inside massive underground Georgia bunker on sale for $17.5M)

We've got genius on roller skates with this one.

Right off the top, we've got the first absurdity in its ability to withstand a nuclear blast.  Twenty kilotons is a similar scale to Hiroshima or Nagasaki whereas the warheads from ICBM's with MIRV's (i.e. most or all of the rocket-delivered nuclear bombs) carry about two megatons of boom for each of the warheads, typically about three or so.

Inside is more like the Nuclear Hilton than a bomb shelter inasmuch as there are many provisions for luxury apartments and, of course, a more modest place for the 'staff.'  Sure, that's all groovy, groovy ... if you never gave any more thought to something than keeping your backside warm.

There's no obvious sign of hydroponic capability which is needed because food storage has obvious limitations in keeping it up to standard over long periods while the bunker is not in use and limitations in nutrition which come that way.  The additional benefit of a hydroponic system is through recycling carbon dioxide and yielding oxygen.

The other obvious demerit is the absence of any energy-producing system.  Any generator-based system requires external ventilation which is also a vulnerability through the exposure to outside air.  Such a system also consumes oxygen and thus exacerbates the first problem of not being able to produce more of it.

Yep, genius on roller skates ... going down the side of a cliff.
