It was a defining moment for women in history when pregnancy became a choice rather than a threat.
There wasn't much point to a woman finding a cool job prior to The Pill because it was inevitable she would get knocked-up somewhere along the way and, poof, good-bye to the cool job. No more of that.
History: FDA approves the pill
Ed: the American birth rate tanked because of that!
Sure but the ratio of planned vs accidental children soared.
One out of six in my family was planned and no-one knows which one but I do know it wasn't me. That's how things went for family planning in the Fifties and then on May 9, 1960, everything changed. Coincidentally, there were no more Fraser siblings after that time either. Unknown if The Pill had anything to do with that but they had proven positively they had no idea how to effectively prevent pregnancy prior to that time and the last sib was born in 1959.
It's the Rockhouse Hare-Brained Theory that The Pill is the drug which up-ended the Sixties and so much in contrast with Vietnam. Recreational drugs made for cooler music and cooler art plus a shitload of pot pipes and candles. Hippies were people who made candles so beautiful you would feel guilty about burning them.
Ed: but you did it anyway?
Yep. It's fookin' candle and not a religious icon.
The Rockhouse does not believe recreational drugs fueled the Revolution; we only believe the drugs made it more entertaining ... except for getting whacked by cops with billy clubs. Cops hated hippies and freaks like Islamic terrorists.
Ed: they still do
Yep
The Pill set women on a path toward self-determination since it's all very well to win the Vote when it's the same old white cranks on the electoral roster every time and gaining the Vote doesn't complete the mission. It was seriously time to change that bullshit and women marched for peace in every context as much or more than men.
No Democrat has tried to restore the Equal Rights Amendment which Reagan allowed to languish and die but that day will come, ladies. The Rockhouse knows this because the Rockhouse knows you will accept nothing less and why should you.
When equality is not for everyone the word does not mean a thing.
