PAL-V and the Hoax of a Flying Car

The PAL-V breaks out to Person Air Land - Vehicle.  Maybe they thought the dash looked cool.  Unknown.  (WIKI:  PAL-V)

There was much celebration as the company recently made its first delivery with a limited production run of maybe fifty units.

So let's take a look at this (cough) flying car.

That's not a car but rather a trike and the single wheel forward is one of the most unstable possible configurations.  This isn't safe although it could be improved if the single wheel is the one in the rear.  In short, it's not a car, it's not even safe.

The collapsible main propeller is likely the weakest point of the aircraft and that's unfortunate when it can get up to altitude and do over 100 mph.  If it fails and loses a blade, you immediately become a rock with an exceptionally short half-life.

The PAL-V appears to be nothing more than a highly-improbably amusement for rich boys to fly to the polo club for their latest tourney.

The beauty part is it will take just about as long and be just about as boring getting from Cincinnati to Columbus as it is now in a car.
