Chelsea Manning Will Be Free in Less than Two Weeks

The Guardian:  Chelsea Manning envisions life after prison: 'I can see a future for myself'

Chelsea Manning, the army private who released a vast trove of US state secrets to WikiLeaks, has issued an emotive statement eight days before her release from military prison thanking her supporters and rejoicing that she can at last see a future for herself as a transgender woman.

“For the first time, I can see a future for myself as Chelsea,” she said. “I can imagine surviving and living as the person who I am and can finally be in the outside world.”

Manning will be set free from Fort Leavenworth in Kansas on 17 May, bringing to an end a seven-year ordeal in which she has been held captive in Iraq, Kuwait and the US, always in male-only detention facilities. In that time, she has waged a relentless legal battle to be respected as a transgender woman, winning the right to receive hormone treatment but still being subjected to male-standard hair length and dress codes.

There are few people the state has tried so hard to crush and destroy.  Obama set her free but after he had left her to rot there for eight years, he doesn't get a medal for it and acts of human decency were so rare with him him this one leaves us questioning his motives since he did nothing for Edward Snowden and said repeatedly he would jail Snowden, yet another American Profile in Courage who risked his life for truth.

Nope, the Rockhouse does not trust Obama and he has not given us any reason we should but Chelsea Manning risked her life for truth, something no-one in Washington has done for so long it's pointless to try to recall.

Chelsea Manning is the walking / talking embodiment of America's failed war efforts and they absolutely fucking hate her for it which is remarkable when she had nothing to do with causing the failures although Obama sure didn't mind making them worse.

Chelsea Manning's infinite courage in standing for truth when hardly anyone else would shows us one of the foremost Profiles in Courage America has ever had the privilege to behold.
