Smile for the Camera, Little Cat

A Siberian tiger destined for a zoo in war-torn Syria, and rescued by an animal rights group, roars inside a cage in Aley, east of Beirut. Three tiger cubs, which were being transported from Ukraine, were trapped in an unmarked maggot-infested crate in Beirut’s airport for almost a week.

There's no tragedy since this is now a rescued feline.  If anything horrible happened to the others then I imagine they would have said so after the description of that crate so I think it's safe to assume they're ok and there we have the state of things, this Caturday.

Circus is one of man's oldest traditions but breaking these great beasts to do tricks is just shameful.

Ed:   Cirque de Soleil doesn't need animals

There probably isn't any fixed requirement for circus since even the Roman Coliseum was a form of it.

I know it's wrong but elephants don't seem to mind so much so that kind of makes it alright.  They really have to go too since we really can't be doing this to them even if they don't care much.

The Shrine Circus is still touring:

They still have animals so the Rockhouse is wondering what happens if they do not.  How about if they keep the high-wire trapeze acts, all of the clowns, and any kind of an act which doesn't need animals.

I'm not sure if that will still bring Gramps out with the little Poppet.  No elephants?  I ain't goin'.

happy about the rescue sad about that it was nesessary ... how anyone likes to see these majestic animals do tricks like a clown is a riddle to me ... thats why I dont have animals in my circus not even in SL ...well the old toothless lion is an exception lol

I do believe the willingness to tolerate acts with animals doing tricks is diminishing and that may be part of why Ringling Brothers Circus is gone now. Bullfighting is dying out in Spain and I do believe there are many more people who want animals treated right but aren't loud and psychotic about it like PETA.

I don't think Aslan the Lion from Narnia and C.S. Lewis is going to be annoyed about the toothless lion in the circus. Everybody loves that lion.

Toby the Dog doesn't do tricks. He just eats and hangs out which is how it ought to be.

Ringling went away because of Cirque de Soliel type experiences.
Ringling should have focused on the fan experience prior to the show. The kids liked that interactive time more than the show itself. Watching a 7 year old trying a slack line with the help of the performer or the one on one time with a clown was priceless. Or the Ringmaster teaching a child to say
May all your days be circus days.
If they followed that path the animals while important would no longer be the focus
Luckily the Ringling museum and college are still active in Sarasota.

Shriner Circus is still out there and hopefully they get your insight when Ringling doesn't. You saw me thinking kids want the trapeze or the elephants but that wasn't it at all.
