Is It Possible to Hang Out with Giant Pandas - Cat Boucher

Cat found the videos of baby Giant Pandas and I ran them earlier for about all the concentrated cuteness you will need for the whole day.  (Ithaka:  Love Me Like a Panda)

That brought the question with her of when we see they're so affectionate as juniors, what happens with Giant Pandas when they grow since they're not predators.  Maybe it's possible to hang out with them like mountain gorillas so long as we hang back far enough to show respect.

After reading, the verdict is ixnay on the panda hugs.  The actual situation is they're mostly not predators but sometimes they adjust their diet.  (Quora:  Have pandas ever been known to attack people or for violent behavior?)

As to whether they're dangerous:  definitely.

There's a video in the Quora article but I didn't bring it here because we really don't need to see the Great Circle of Life to know it exists.  In that video, a Giant Panda hunts a peacock and I could kind of see that since peacocks are so damn loud, maybe it just pissed him off.

In fact, peacocks are so loud they're sometimes used as watchbirds (seriously).  I saw them used that way in a well-known winery in Greece but there's really not such a huge security problem since I don't think bank robbers or jewel thieves have ever dug a tunnel under a winery to rob it.

This shoots the Panda Kumbaya all to hell but it was a nice thought while it lasted since maybe it gets  Walt Disney with them and they're not threatened by us so they dance about like they're in one of his movies.

The idea was cool but the same advisory exists for them as with any other:  they're wild animals so don't screw with them.

The situation is different with orangutans and Julia Roberts did go to hang out with them.

Her First Orangutan Encounter is about +13:00 into the video.  Be prepared to be charmed.

Kids are not much on my mind but it would be highly damn cool to have one just to take the little tyke to meet the orangs.  How big do a kid's eyes get from that.
