Geektalk about Hot Rod Physics for Dodge Demon Going 0-60 in 2.3 Seconds

The Engineering Channel on YouTube gives us one of our favorite geektalkers since he certainly knows the material and he's really good at explaining it.

Note:  this isn't so much a thrill ride with a Dodge Demon but rather it shows how the Demon gets it done.  He does have some footage of a Dodge Demon doing that 2.3 second quarter mile, tho.

At first I was thinking it was interesting for me and not likely in general but the exhaust note of the car is something I mentioned yesterday about Mustangs.  The actual horsepower rating for the Dodge Demon is unknown to the Rockhouse but apparently the 2018 Challenger is packing 840 hp.  There's big muscle behind the modern Detroit iron.

As you will discover from the video, the Dodge Demon is nearly worthless as a road vehicle due to the spring loading of front / rear.  I often hear cars around here belting to create a similar exhaust note and Dodge has been pushing that SRT brand for years so they must be all over the place by now.

Here's a brief moment of the automotive joy in knowing this is something I don't have to do ... consider the cost of the tires for this vehicle.  The Rockhouse is guessing $300-$400 a pop, easy.

It's a puzzle to the Rockhouse since we have never thought that much of straight-line speed when the biggest bang is how deep into a corner you can carry it.  With the Dodge Demon, it doesn't appear you can go too deep at all and that may well be true for the cars rat racing around here as well.  If those rat racers have jacked the spring loading then the car will never cut it for Fast and the Furious because it's going to roll over on the first corner.

For exhaust note Ford does the best job straight from the factory with the Mustang.
The Demon is 2secs faster straight line than the closest factory competitor. The ZL1 Camaro which is an 11sec car but it is also a track ready car. It pumps out 650HP.
Detroit is in a muscle car resurgence.

I'm hearing a lot of that muscle flexing around here and they really hammer it so I'm amazed they don't get themselves busted or dead. I guess it doesn't matter if the cop hears you since he's got to see it. Unknown.

Putting all that muscle on the street and expecting people to show any sense with it ... never even occurred to them (larfs).
