Jimmy Stewart stars in "It's a Wonderful Life" and probably at least some of you will roll that one at some time in the Christmas season. My taste goes more to "Scrooged" with Bill Murray for Christmas movies but Jimmy Stewart is known to millions from "It's a Wonderful Life."
Stewart was such a gentle, unassuming man in the roles he played or those for which he is known best but there was another side to him which was altogether different. He didn't talk about that side much but there are still some records which may surprise you.
This video has nothing to do with "It's a Wonderful Life" since it features Brigadier General James Stewart after flying Convair's B-58 Hustler and he gives a talk about the advantages of this ferociously bad-ass bomber. General Stewart was well-qualified to talk about bad-ass bombers since he led B-24 bombing missions into Germany and one of the targets was Berlin. (WIKI: James Stewart)
Probably all men are aware of the B-58 since this has long been the most bad-ass of the long range nuclear bombers. Everything about it looks dangerous and this is the one which bombed Moscow in "Fail-Safe," a movie which demonstrates the efficacy of systems which prevent nuclear conflict.
After returning from those bombing missions in Germany in the B-24 bombers, James Stewart went to Hollywood made a movie about his friend, a large invisible rabbit, in "Harvey" in 1950. He also married his wife in 1949 and they were together until she died well over forty years later.
