Remarkable Photographs from Late-19th Century London

London Nomades - a group of travellers who were staying on vacant land in Battersea

The lives of street doctors, chimney sweeps, market sellers and street beggars are told in the amazing frames captured by photographer John Thompson in the 1800s.

The photographs are extraordinary and highly-enigmatic, particularly when they're not quite one hundred and fifty years ago.  The collection presented in the article is surprisingly large and gives a number of unusual and exceptional views of the people of London.  Showing me the richies doesn't tell me that much but these portraits are fascinating.

The people in the caravan don't seem to be gypsies and the races aren't the same so who are they.  This is at least forty years after the Industrial Revolution period is said to have ended and it's apparent it did nothing good for any of the people in the pictures.

It's a puzzling set and you may find it intriguing.
