"Put a Lid on It" | Squirrel Nut Zippers

It don't mean a thing if it don't got that swing

Here's a bit of my own Rockhouse retro since I'm sure Mystery Lady was a great swing dancer but I sucked at it.  However, my ol' Dad had been jivin' since he was a junior and he would like to shake out some jitterbug moves with Barbie sometimes.  He was a madman for jive dance and he was good at it.  I'm not sure if any of the other sibs got it.

Swing dance has to be the ultimate, right.  There's kind of a high romance intrigue in waltzing in a royal ball since that's so unbelievably elegant ... but ...

still you need to shake it ...

and ...

it don't mean a thing if it don't got that swing.

Ed:  where's mention of hip hop when that's neo-jive?

It can't be dismissed as derivative when it made its own so, sure, that's a fair call.

I can't do that either (sob).

Ed:  there's always merengue

That's my consolation, that I can be a rave wildman at a wedding reception.  That was always my dream.

It don't mean a thing if it don't got that swing
do wop, do wop, do wop, do wop
