For Most Unusual Change Yet, Now You Can Marry Yourself

Sometimes we need a story which is demented beyond anything anyone is likely to understand except for the people who do it since they stage elaborate marriage ceremonies with all the elaboration of any wedding except there may be a bride or a groom but not both.  How about ten grand for a random number to guess at what somewhat splashy weddings cost so this person actually thought it would have some serious value to her life and she's not at all the only one who celebrates a solo marriage.

Note:  there's nothing of questionable taste in the article since my interest is the strange much more than whatever alternative prurience is engendered by it.

There's no particular editorial about it since the Rockhouse assessment is it wastes a lot of money but so what and the celebrants don't agree anyway.  It's bemusing to me yet they seem to be clear to some purpose.

An Italian bride has ditched the traditional two-person approach to marriage by hosting a bizarre solo wedding.

Lissone resident Laura Mesi invited 70 guests to a farmhouse in Vimercate, north of Milan, Monday to see her walk down the aisle resplendent in a Swarovski diamond encrusted wedding dress – the only thing missing, however, was a groom.

Mesi told Il Giorno national newspaper that she made the decision to marry herself after failing to find a suitable husband before the age of 40.

Zen Yogi:  she's a comely young lass and she looks happy so her Zen Moment appears to be a great one even though I don't understand it

That puzzlement is the interest, Yogi, since she looks as happy as a butterfly in a field full of flowers.

I have no particular criticism since it's unusual but it's harmless.  The greater unusual is it seems there is something of a sologamous movement and multiple people are doing it.

Known as ‘sologamy,’ advocates of self-marriage claim the non-legally binding union can help foster a better understanding of oneself and “harmonize your external relationships.”

There really is some kind of movement so that should nicely enhance your puzzlement.

Zen Yogi:  why present it, Silas?

It's the curiosity at an Unusual Sociological Puzzle, Yogi.

Zen Yogi:  the story may be top-to-bottom hogwash

The First Rule of the Internet is whatever you're reading probably isn't true but Russia Today has been a reliable source for years so that gives the story an extra bump toward authenticity.

I feel [like] a healthy person… and happy and I have a good opinion of myself,” Mesi said following a lavish ceremony involving a three tier wedding cake.

“Some people might criticize me, but I’m convinced that I have done nothing wrong. I’m so happy and above all I crowned my dream.”

The single spouse admitted that she could marry someone in the future, but she said that her happiness does not depend on it.

Zen Yogi:  maybe she just has a huge need for attention

Maybe but it seems this would a huge hassle for only that.

Zen Yogi:  and you're really not going to ridicule her?

No, it just looks odd since blowing that money for week in the islands seems a much cooler thing to do but you can see this had a great deal of meaning to her.

Zen Yogi:  you know you won't find answer for why she does it, right?

Yep, it's just novel to see she and others doing this while there's so much angry conflict with other forms of marriage.  There's no way to tell if she is mocking such other marriages or if she is joining them to be part of a larger change.

In other words, sometimes Millennials are just fun to watch.

Zen Yogi:  well, thanks, Silas ... I think
