The Deep Space Gateway sounds right away like it came from a sci fi novel due to the coolness of it.
The actual purpose of the Gateway is as a Moon base and Russia and America will work together to build it. Other nations are expected to join the project as well and it will function in much the way the International Space Stations is working now. The number of nations which have worked to support the latter has been a thing of international beauty, particularly when its purposes are non-military. They have laudable goals and they're big ones.
There have been rumors that the US and Russia would be teaming up to build a lunar base. Sources within the country told Popular Mechanics that the head of their space organization, Roscosmos, was set to announce a partnership agreement with NASA this week. Now, Roscosmos and NASA have both released statements saying stating the two countries' shared "common vision for human exploration."
They go on to say that Russia and the US will cooperate on a Moon program, specifically mentioning the Deep Space Gateway by name. That's the base NASA plans to build in lunar orbit starting in the 2020s (the statement sets a mid-2020s goal for beginning the project). The release also mentions that other international partners are considering signing onto the lunar base.

Cooperation in this way is the Glory Road for the Rockhouse since it accomplishes things which have international agreement and the scope for anything of that nature is inevitably large just as it has been with the ISS.

The Deep Space Gateway may look something like this which is apparently an early vision from Lockheed Martin.

The approach to the Deep Space Gateway is significantly improved over even the International Space Station.
Right now, the ISS has different ports for the multiple vehicles that dock with it. The Russian Soyuz capsule uses a different style docking port than the Space Shuttle did -- the Americans had to install adapters to convert Shuttle docking ports and allow private craft like SpaceX's Dragon to connect with them. Collaboration from the ground up, rather than making our own plans and partnering with the Russians at the last minute (like we did with the International Space Station), means that we can establish, collaborate on and coordinate technical specifications, making things easier in the medium and long term.

This type of commited, long-term cooperation is of inordinate beauty to the Rockhouse since it brings combined projects in support of interplanetary trading and all in the cause of peace. Of course we love it.
We know the speculation about the Deep Space Gateway is not idle sci fi pish posh since the same teams have built a project just like this one already.
Carry the project out one more step since you're likely aware multiple commercial space corporations and countries, mostly American, to get to the Moon. The Rockhouse is glad to see it but all of them have appeared to be independent efforts rather than cooperative ventures between multiple corporations.
How about if the Deep Space Gateway could be the home to some lunar transport shuttles down to the various lunar bases on the ground. In that way, the new commercial big dealers could fly their much bigger space vessels to the DSG and then avail themselves of the lunar shuttles to get to the surface. The lunar landing is a tremendous expense but that would be reduced tremendously by the DSG shuttle landers.
Note: there is extensive discussion in the source article regarding the different docking ports on the DSG and, thus, it gains the ability to host space vessels from many sources.
Heinlein's "Glory Road" is not the same story or even similar except insofar as walking the Glory Road is an excellent way to make exceptional things happen.
Zen Yogi: now they will be flying the Glory Road, Silas
Which makes it all the more magnificent, mate.
