Ed: how does that make it real?
People often use examples in mythology of multiple cultures as validation there really was a Great Flood and the same logic is used regarding the Cosmic Turtle.
Ed: how do you explain the space program?
Easy. CGI.
Ed: what about all the people who saw launches?
Mass hallucination due to airborne hallucinogens spread via chem trails over the launch site.

Because the Overlords want it that way.

No. The Overlords are the ones who own the Cosmic Turtles.
Ed: they don't want to meet us?
No. We're cranky, ill-tempered beasts. Why should anyone want to meet us. Astronomers have been listening for decades for anywhere in the Universe trying to contact us but zip. They don't like us even a tiny bit. At least they didn't repossess the Cosmic Turtle.
