About That Heroin

From Anonymous:

Something MUST be done about the present heroin epidemic.  It kills more than guns and ruins far more than it kills.

I can not count the number of kids (i.e. under 25) that I know who are addicts or are in relationships with addicts.  Most of these kids are from affluent families that tried to hide it and solve it themselves. Hardly ever works.

Bean issues addicts spend about $35k/year on the stuff.  Mostly stolen credit card theft is the easiest method as the companies make it so easy.

Each addict directly impacts at least 4 other people (i.e. partner, parents, siblings) because of their issues.

So this is a societal problem that is closing in own teen pregnancy as the leading destroyer of childhood dreams.

P.S.  Every cop, EMT, and schools hould have Narcan pens.  Just as with EPI pens for allergies

Anonymous confirms what I have been hearing about increasing use of heroin by the young.  As with cigarettes, it's mystifying when so much is known already.  Why would they do it when they see so many others have been destroyed by it.

There's one draw for malcontents which logic can't counter much and that's the defiance in using something you know is incredibly dangerous and which will outrage anyone who hears of it.  They are still too young to know some gestures of defiance don't wash off with a haircut and a shower.

You can see the scope of it from the testimony of Anonymous.  I don't know nor will I judge the scope of Anonymous' engagement but everything Anonymous is in keeping with that which is reported or rumored elsewhere.  There's no reason to dispute a word of it.

There is one thing we can offer from the Rockhouse, that teen pregnancy has been decreasing for some years.  That pregnancy decreases while heroin increases says to me there are multiple forms of rebellion and they're not being driven by the same thing(s).  Teen pregnancy really does move downward toward sensibility but heroin abuse levels, as we see, do not.

Here at the Rockhouse we don't take any particular guilt in smoking reefer openly because we don't believe a 25-year-old pays any more attention to me than I would have paid to someone my age when I was twenty-five.

(Ed:  so why write this?)

Because some parents may not know their kids are prime candidates for this kind of rebellion and you know how it goes with kids, they're sneaky, and, as Anonymous has said, they will hide it.  The thinking heroin addiction is only something for the inner city hasn't been true for quite a few years.

We're not familiar with a Narcan pen but we're assuming it's something to deal with a narcotics overdose.  Calling Google ...

There are various kinds of injectors and we don't know which one is the Narcan pen but it's based on Naloxone which may rescue addicts who are overdosing on the drug.  That such a thing should be required in a high school is an obvious disgrace but to need it in a high school and not have it available is an even bigger one.

Hopefully the article treats the subject well. I don't know if this public service type of thing really helps but it definitely can't hurt.

I saw that number a while back and was surprised but those kinds of surprises are good ones. I was horrified when CNN presented it almost as a sideshow at a carnival when a circle of young girls in a high school all got pregnant at once and all of them ruined their lives at the same time. It was fookin' tragic and CNN was selling popcorn.

75 people od in Chicago in 72 hours Hardly anyone cares but have some loony toons shoot someone and everyone rallys
This is the systemic problem with society . Focus is always on the hot news not the best bang for the buck

I see it. Even on insane week-ends, they don't shoot half that many with guns. The guns are insane but heroin kills you just the same.
