Strange Texas Animals ... Other Than Ted Cruz

How about this beauty, the Tarantula Hawk.  If you're betting the tarantula has a chance, your money will not come home with you today.  That is one soon-to-be-deceased tarantula.

According to report, the sting from a Tarantula Hawk is so painful that your only viable option on being stung is to fall to the ground and start screaming.  (Wired:  Absurd Creature of the Week: If This Wasp Stings You, ‘Just Lie Down and Start Screaming’)

So, yah, there are tarantulas here also.  Texas is just one giant paradise of biology.  There was a Garden of Eden for 'nice' animals ... but these animals came from somewhere else.

Now Ted Cruz is more boring than strange but his Brylcreem 'do' makes him extremely creepy ... but ... even Ted Cruz isn't as creepy as the Texas Redheaded Centipede.

Yes, it's poisonous.  It's not clear how potent the venom really may be as one report said it's relatively mild and another one said an officer in the Confederate army took two days to die in agony after being stung by one.  Here's the beauty part:  they're described as 'fast and aggressive' but how fast or how aggressive is left for the interested tourist to discover.  Something impressively inventive about these ones is they can even sting you with their feet.

(Ed:  is this why Texans carry guns?)

Wouldn't you!
