"I Still Believe" | Lea Salonga and Lisa Capps

"New Yorker" reacted scornfully to "Miss Saigon" with its only response being something like 'oh, the humanity.'

Nevertheless, we have seen that which has been emanating from New York for some years and we're not interested in what they think.  Yes, yes ... the CIA and Clinton are good.  Got it.  Move along, move along.

For the Mystery Lady, harmonies from angels.

These singers have no mikes, no autotune, nothin' but their talent ... and the house goes silent when they sing one of the most beautiful tragic love songs ever recorded.

Yeah, yeah, girlie ... I hear you can sing on "American Idol."  Let's hear you do it on Broadway.

Ed:  Lady Gaga could do it.  She doesn't use autotune and she's sure got the power.

I do believe you're right, mate, but do try to stay focused here.

Ed:  you've been pushing your Hare-Brained Ideas so here's mine for Lady Gaga on Broadway!

That really could be outrageously cool.  Skip Vegas altogether and head for The City.  Nevertheless, Ms Salonga is one of the great Broadway stars so do try to pay attention.  That will not be a problem once you click the Play icon.

I've had the privilege of seeing/hearing Ms Salonga perform several times and she's a blazing light in the middle of some deeply-troubled times.  That's when it was resolved once and for all that a non-ganja state is an exceptionally bad way for the Silas to spend time.

We have no time for the bad way but we have plenty for the light and the song is nothing but beautiful.

Ed:  and tragic!

Heaps of tragic.

I don't have a burning need for buckets of tears just now but if you have that inclination then do continue with Eponine's death scene in "Les Miserables" with "A Little Fall of Rain" as that's also an exquisitely-tragic love story.  Fair warning:  if it doesn't make you weep, you should probably have yourself checked for granite content.

Aren't they lovely and I didn't know of Ms Capps previously but she's ultra good as well. One of the things I love most about musicals is how the really gifted composers will interweave disparate vocal lines and "I Still Believe" gives a great example of that. For me, that's high genius in composition and you just heard the genius in delivery.
