Real World Examples of Rock Cities

Development of a large-scale underground Rock City capable of sustaining at least a million people has been a long-running series on Ithaka and I inadvertently discovered some videos with real world examples on exactly that theme.

These are not Government Secrets You're Not Supposed to Know although many of those types of videos exist.  The first example is in Chicago and they give a serious review of how to do the underground construction and what considerations come with it.

Specific examples are given for how to bore out such immense constructions and what to do with the rock which comes from it.  How much of this will really happen remains to be seen but they're clear on the approach to be used.

This one presents a number of underground developments with some going back to the 8th Century but the #1 example is modern in Montreal.  This video is not so much a how-to as a survey of construction projects of this nature over time.

These videos might seem depressing things to find after some steps toward writing a book but rather than inhibiting anything they drive it forward all the more because the idea doesn't seem half as whacked when there are multiple efforts in this direction anyway; we just want a really, really big one.

Something the videos do not consider is the infrastructure needed for support since they assume electrical power and water, etc will be there.  Those aspects may have been over-emphasized for the Ithaka project but they're needed in any case.

I've been quite keen to get to the sociological considerations of the Rock City so the reality coming out of these videos gives a great basis to jump to that with reasonable confidence the hardware I anticipate will be there or catch up relatively soon.

Ed:  you keep talking about that part so where is it?

That should be next since this article is to show the theme is not dead and also to substantiate the idea of the validity of any of this thinking about underground Rock Cities.

What I take from these videos is the Order of the Day:  full speed forward.

The assumption that water, power cleaning the air etc is rather enormous.
Just as you continue to pretend that the cost is somehow not important to its availability to come to fruition

The country carries twenty trillion in debt right now so, nope, I don't see any problem with illusory money systems!

The existing Rock City projects make the assumption they can draw from city power, water, etc. That's the part I don't want to assume.
