"Nothing to Prove" (poem)

When all is shrouded
  in games and in secrets
in time you must ask
am I dice or a piece.
Will I live in the light
  and let people choose
Will I just roll about
  to thrill and amuse.

What things will lie
in the mist of your song
Is there an answer
  or is this all wrong.
When the shadows will lurk
  and come to the game
The result will be always
  and ever the same.

Each game has its losers
  when a winner is throned
But when dancing with life
  all do it alone.
It's only in light
  that the pieces can move
This isn't a game
  and there's nothing to prove.

No, of course this isn't about Cat!  She's the most forthcoming woman I've ever known.
