Big Girls Like to Jam

The Rockhouse goes on quite a bit about Skinny White Girls and their domination in music.  Dona Oxford isn't skinny but she's definitely a woman ... who likes to boogie woogie.

The Rockhouse won't use her as a bridge to Canned Heat since they have their own boogie ways but Dona Oxford has such a hell of a good time doing it she's not to be missed.

Ed:  boogie don't got no changes

Boogie is for dancin', not for changin'.

Visualize trying to dance to any prog rock set.  You would have to be fookin' Rudolf Nureyev to have even a tiny chance of staying with it.  Genesis doesn't change only the motif as they go through their panorama, they change time signatures as well.  Give it go as you will but I'll sit it out and watch Rudolf.

For boogie, you can dance; anyone can.  Just shake something and you've got it.

The Rockhouse isn't a huge fan of boogie but it's a gas to check it out once in a while.  Anyone who's wanting to play some boogie definitely came for the party.

And you give journos a rough way to go using hyperbole pumping up their headlines. I would dare say that unless at least 50% of the Rock Gods are female it is not domination.
You might have a particular gender bias to women of RnR but they certainly do not dominate

Unknown about your news sources but you won't hear much about male acts and you'll hardly ever hear anything about any bands via any general news stream. It's almost always about soloists and they're almost always female.

I'm sure there's some male somewhere who can match Tina S but apparently he didn't since we don't hear about him.

Adele only has to blow her nose and CNN will run a story on it. I don't think I am all that biased but I will keep it in mind.

List the top 50 grossing acts
There are only 8 females 9 if you say Fleetwood Macs is there because of Stevie.
If you go by record sales only Madonna breaks into top 7 of over 250M copies Only 6 women in top 25 of album sales
PS Adele is a newcomer she is not even in the same church as Madonna Streisand Shania Mariah far less same pew.
Neither is Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift while they are big they have a long way to go to be huge.
So you list a few internet sensations and a couple of pop stars and they may be very talented but they are certainly not dominating or even icon level.
As far as Tina S goes I will quote the lyrics There are 10000 guitar pickers in Nashville.
So take a walk down Broadway some time and listen to the pickers on the street. And those are the ones that can't get into a honky tonk or recording studio as a sessions
I dare say that like auto racing there may be talent out there but it will take a long time for them to get recognized. Only NHRA has top flight women competing and winning on the Main Stage

What happens if you take the old fogeys out of that roster. I saw Fleetwood Mac the first time when I was in my twenties and the voice plus those fluttering scarves in the sunlight left a lifetime crush for Stevie Nicks. That was, oh, forty+ years ago.

I strongly suspect if you limit your survey to acts aged, say, forty and under then you will end up with a substantially different result.

Unknown if Tina S is the best anywhere as I've heard a whole lot of shredders but she's young and cute so she surprises tremendously when she does it.

Tina S is amazing as is the little Gibson poster child guitarist. But they are few and far between. Her cover of David Gilmours Comfortably Numb is quite impressive. But she has a very small following. She will like most guitarist be a studio musician or in the shadows to some frontman.

Use last year's Billboard charts
Adele Beyonce Sia Jess Glynne and 21 males are top selling albums for 2016.
Hell they are two dead males one of which died 40 years ago

Fair enough on the count but I'm looking at it as grannies may have looked at things in the Sixties and even they knew about The Beatles. Adele gets that kind of recognition and I think it's most female acts who do but I don't know that for sure. If CNN pops up a headline about a musician, it seems the musico will usually be female.

The biggest concern with Tina S is what happens when she breaks out as a young woman but she has done only covers so that leads to your thinking she will be doing studio work. That's good for music but not so good for us.

Justin Beiber Kanye [who cares ] West
Your view is skewed.
Males still dominate the charts as females spend the music money.

But do they rock??

Adele did a fairly good rippin' tune with "Rolling in the Deep" and I've never heard that kind of power from males. I'm not denying it exists although, frankly, it would surprise me these days but it sure doesn't seem to get much publicity.

I'm the out-of-touch old fucker who blunders about but I found Adele that way and I rarely run into males in the same way. The most hard-ass at males sounding like males is, for me, still Nickelback with "Burn It to the Ground" as I have no particular use for males who sing like cement mixers (e.g. Slayer, etc) and I have zero use for whiny ass crooners.
