That question is the first thing you will hear any time you call the Veterans Administration hospitals. It's annoying to hear because I've heard it so many times already but the fact of the matter is twenty veterans commit suicide every day, twice the national average.
The probability of suicide is significantly reduced for veterans who get to the VA and the problem remains the same as the VA does everything it can to find you but scurvy toads such as Paul Ryan and the like obstruct it in every way they can. Even in America, that level of hypocrisy is a surprise.
Even better, Hillary Clinton didn't even know about it and couldn't make a statement until her staff told her what to say. (Ref: first debate)
I would quite likely be one of those statistics if not for VA since there is no medical support from anywhere else. It wouldn't take a push with a feather to convince me to suicide now since the quality of life has sunk deep into the toilet. VA makes the difference. Even that won't be enough at some point and it's pointless to look for help from anywhere else; it won't come.
Surprisingly, this does not depress me terribly as my mind works just fine, it's everything else which is busted. That's just the nature of life but it's taught me tremendously about the nature of humans.
There are people who really will help, vets, and if you're forty miles away from a VA hospital then you can see any doctor. They try as hard as they can and I tell you I would be croaked without them, so would a whole lot of people who can't afford medicine any other way. Congress obviously couldn't care less but the VA does and it's real.
We know the bitterness toward those ungrateful bastards in politics and those who support them but that part doesn't matter anymore as the only important thing is to survive. Believe it as a whole lot of people really want to help. What you hear in the news is statist, propagandistic bullshit but you have known that since Vietnam, haven't you. The VA is real and the people are some of the best you may ever meet in your life.
