Sometimes the WOTD Comes from America

There's a unique country style in America which is extremely dorky but it's authentic.  It's probably descended from a Germanic source since, wtf, everything else is and that's not as smart ass as it seems since the American Midwest was heavily settled by German immigrants.  Argue if you like where 'country' lives in America but you know the East coast is nowhere near it and California is still chewing lotus leaves as hard as it ever did.

The WOTD entered the language at about the same time as the Republican Party and you can judge for yourself whether 'cackleberry' has the most lasting value.

Today we learned 'cackleberry' is an egg and the word is like much of country art in that it's often inelegant but is still kind of charming.

(Ed:  cackleberry is charming?)

Well, maybe cackleberry not so much but there's a kind of Grandma Moses-style dorky two-dimensional charm to the overall genre which may be unique.  It will trace back to German roots aber 'cackleberry' ist nicht Deutsch.

(Ed:  du bist auch nicht Deutsch!)

That's a roger, Cap'n, but I would have had it if I had made it to Germany.  I just needed to build vocabulary and polish the grammar.

Enjoy your cackleberries this morning since they are, after all, such an important part of the morning's constitutional.
