Blame Heredity for Loneliness and Now You Can

Scientists have discovered a measure of heritability in the sensation of loneliness and don't jump to thinking 'what bloody rubbish' until you at least review the article.  (Science Daily:  Do these genes make me lonely? Study finds loneliness is a heritable trait)

Time out for gratuitous slam:  there are two ways science turns into nonsense.  The first is when the scientists talk about psychology and then the second is when conservatives talk about climate change.

The researchers also determined that loneliness tends to be co-inherited with neuroticism (long-term negative emotional state) and a scale of depressive symptoms. Weaker evidence suggested links between heritable loneliness and schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. In contrast to previous studies, the researchers did not find loneliness to be associated with variations in specific candidate genes, such as those that encode dopamine or oxytocin.

Oh, you still don't consider it science?

Well, can't be helped then, can it.  But perhaps I might request the forbearance for one tiny question:  how's your neuoroticism today.
