Making Chicken Noodle Soup Better

Chicken Noodle Soup is the time-tested remedy for just about anything and that story has been told by old wives at least since the time of Jesus and much farther back in SouthEast Asia when chickens were first domesticated.

Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup is the preferred selection for the Galactic Peace Tour but we have wondered from time to time if there is any way to improve it.  If you're reduced to chicken noodle soup because your guttywuts can't tell a Sunday from a Monday, then you will probably eat a lot of it before your calendar and your guttywuts synchronize into glorious harmony once again.

Down here in the Po' House, there's no money for grandiose solutions.  That little money is available is why they call it the Po' House, see.  When there is little money, the next move is improvisation.

In the Galactic Peace Tour Cookhouse, we decided the answer was to make it sweeter.  Adding black pepper to chicken noodle soup is ok but even a pile of it won't disguise the fact you're eating chicken noodle soup.  So we tried an alternative angle instead by going with brown sugar to sweeten it.

Note:  the black pepper won't hurt so keep doing that.

While the brown sugar made an intriguing new taste for the chicken noodle soup, we felt it wasn't yet complete and that's when we hit on the idea of jalapeno peppers.  Those were put into a food processor in which they were almost pureed to get a more even distribution throughout the soup.

We found the hot fire of the jalapenos in combination with the wholesome sweetness of the brown sugar made an interesting interplay of notes within the chicken noodle soup base and on the whole we found it pleasing and satisfying.

Note: banana peppers can be substituted but they have little fire and we found them generally unsatisfactory.
