Unknown if formal living rooms are still so prevalent but there was a time when they were commonplace and all had the same salient characteristic: kids were terrified of them.
The chair is stunning and, remarkably for designer furniture, looks like it may even be comfortable. For $1600, it better be.
That sort of furniture is way past the means of many who had formal living rooms as often the furniture was covered in protective plastic to ensure it will be ready if ever the Queen should visit.
All of these types of things conspire to create one thing in the minds of children: raw terror. You even look inside that room and the demons will eat you!
Australia probably didn't go in for this sort of thing as they don't have much truck with poofy stuff of this nature. I'd expect something like this: it's something for the sheilas, mate.
