Status of Mondo MIDI Multiplexer Mania

Arrival via USPS is scheduled for Friday (i.e. U.S. day of hell on Earth ... or ... Black Friday).  We're skeptical of whether that can really happen simply because ... it's the U.S. Day of Hell on Earth.

Oh, as to thinking the Black Friday camp-out door-sitters are stupid ... well ... they fooled you completely.  They made the morning so unpleasant other people won't go and the heaviest shopping hours, as judged by foot traffic in stores, are between 2pm and 4pm in the afternoon.

Note:  if you're needing a citation on that, seriously consider seeking professional therapy.  That Star Wars toy which follows you around the house will break before Christmas Day is over.  Seriously, seek help ... and not at the mall.

(Ed:  seriously?)

Sure, what could be more serious than a Star Wars toy which follows you around the house.  Unknown how it deals with stairs but we expect it would be funny, albeit expensive, to watch.

So the Mondo MIDI Multiplexer Mega Monster arrives on Friday ... maybe.

Keeping the older Boss RC-50 looper is still not a sure thing as I see $200 sitting on the floor.  Unless it sits up and barks on command, it becomes a cash fire problem which is significantly worse than a cash flow problem because the latter may sometimes flow the other way.

There are two ways the MIDI Multiplexer can be used and the limited number of MIDI ports relative to the Studio 16 I had previously mean the device can be used for one application or the other.  The former application is straight-forward in terms of connecting both loopers and getting a properly clocked signal to the drum machine, etc, etc.

The alternate application is bleedin' insane but it requires getting the GR-20 Guitar Synthesizer working and that may come with replacing an expensive cable. That's needed because MIDI sent from the guitar is over a non-standard MIDI cable so I can't send it directly to the lights / lasers controller.  Therefore, it must go through the GR-20 and out the other side via standard MIDI-out.

The replacement cable solution is not guaranteed because the whackage in the scooter crash in Nice may have done more damage than I realize (i.e. Galaxy Guitar MIDI capability and / or the GR-20 synth box).  I have tested with an existing cable and there was moderate success but not enough to convince me it's worth spending sixty or seventy dollars for another cable and, noooo, I am not kidding.  There are few makers of non-standard MIDI cables (i.e. has an extra pin for carrying power) so they can charge whatever they like.  My biggest bitch with the cables is they do not seem to be all that reliable.

So it wimbles, wombles and wambles but that's ok because that don't cost nothin'.  The primary problem is definitely resolved because the replacement looper has zero deficiencies and works to perfect satisfaction.

One thing I know positively, when the Galaxy Guitar and the GR-20 guitar synth are working at full capability, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.  With the right synth voice(s) complementing a distortion chord via the standard pickups, there's a sound of such magnificence as to bring strong men to their knees in reverence ... and ... verily ... it was so (larfs).

This in no way sidetracks "The End of the World in Fort Worth" because, sure, it would be cooler to bring more technology into it so long as it does not impede or overshadow live play but that's an option rather than a requirement.
