After all those years with motorcycles, I've broken many of the bones from my shoulder to my feet. This isn't a tale of woe as I chose to do those things and there's not much I would change ... except I never would have smoked cigarettes.
This is not a whine and it has a point so here's a quick inventory: shoulder / left arm (multiple breaks) / left thumb (broken) / collarbone (complete separation) / pelvis (multiple breaks) / left foot (multiple breaks in multiple bones) / right foot (broken in Nice but never got x-rays).
Obviously all that stuff hurts quite a bit but here's the point: I never take any pain medication except Aspirin and I mean never. I do not ever touch prescription pain medication. Likely I would if it worked ... but it doesn't. Way back I tried it after a dentist prescribed Vicodin and I tell you the stuff is shit.
After the biggest crash, I was on Tilox, a heavy pain medication for months. I cannot explain why I did not get addicted to it but that stuff was out of my life as soon as I was strong enough. I have never used anything of that nature since.
When I go on about the dangers of prescription medication and obviously street narcotics, it's not something I read from a textbook as I live it. I'm not a junkie and I've never been one. See above as to why not.

The reason you didnt get addicted is because you didnt like the feeling of the numbness it created. Addicts crave the numbness. Go to any meeting thats all they talk about
True as I never wanted to turn off but rather to turn on and not like those speed maniacs who blow off their heads with the stuff. I've never liked any of those types of narcotics although I did get a bit of a taste, not a lot, for cocaine. From that I knew, run away, run away.
