Avination - Summary of Differences with Second Life

The problems to solve in Second Life are many.  Some but not all are listed below:

  • Over-pricing of land
  • Rejection of third-party money exchanges
  • Repressive attitudes toward music
  • Failure of Lindens to support anything except sale of clothing (e.g. mesh, etc)
  • The MTN (Massive Troll Network) that got too big for Second Life and needed to include Facebook
  • Loss of the vision

In general, all of the problems can be summarised in the loss of vision and that's where Avination comes into it.  The differences are below:

  • Land / Tier prices in Avination are substantially cheaper
  • No rejection of third-party money exchanges
  • Music is wide open to whatever you want to play without the mindless provincialism that caters to incompetents.  The Lindens haven't done anything to improve support for musicians in years.
  • Complex sims are developing in Avination much faster than shopping.  Nevertheless, mesh is supported.
  • Trolls are inherently stupid and it will take some time for them to catch up
  • Avination is looking forward rather than back
What created Second Life was the vision of a virtual future whereas it is now trying to preserve a moribund past.  In trying to hang on to what it had, it will only increase the speed at which it stagnates.  This was not the attitude that created Second Life and it is not the attitude that will sustain it and encourage growth.  It's only through encouragement of creativity and free-thinking that anything ever grew.

Probably the biggest single benefit to Avination, beyond the financial benefits, is the sense of community and this is highly charming and compelling.
