KISS and the Rock and Roll Hall of Lame (video)

Once again, KISS has been snubbed on induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Paul Stanley's reaction was, "I Don't Need The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame."

"Look, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is marketing.  You've got a bunch of faceless people in a back room who trademark a name that sounds very official," said Stanley, apparently unaware that KISS has been marketed with more mercenary zeal that has been shown for anything from Presidential politics to Pet Rocks.

On some things he said I can easily agree:  "Laura Nyro does not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Songwriter Hall of Fame? Absolutely."  (Huffington Post Entertainment: KISS' Paul Stanley: I Don't Need The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame)

This year Carole King was inducted and she is a tremendous songwriter but rock and roll?  Can I get an oh, bullshit on this?  Anna one anna two anna three ... OH BULLSHIT!

I bought the first KISS album to find out what was happening and found the entire thing was three-minute songs.  It couldn't have been more commercial if it were Ted Nugent trying to keep his washed-up name alive through ludicrous statements on gun ownership.  I just saw Top Forty Radio with make-up and Marshalls and that was enough for me.

Nevertheless, criticising them for their marketing techniques is grossly hypocritical as The Beatles become 'overnight sensations' through heavily-concerted advertising and, whammo, the Fab Four become a world-wide phenomenon.  There has been massive promotion and marketing in rock and roll and criticising KISS for it is a whole lot less than fair.

I was never much of a fan of the band although I did like a few of their tunes and they have one that pretty much covers the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Take it away, "Psycho Circus!"

Any band that loves the circus can't be all bad, right!
