Some artiste collected big bucks from richie wizards who sought to bring some class to Fountain Square in Cincinnati. The piece was called "Law and Society" and it was hooted for being a preposterous piece of contrived crap almost as soon as it was unveiled. After taking it for a while, culturists gave up and it moved to some park closer to the Ohio River. Our guess is the people eventually hope to push it into the river.
According to said artiste, it doesn't matter who he was, the block of unfinished rock represents the raw society and the chrome ugliness holding it in-place represents what law has given the society. This may well be the laziest, most uninspired piece of sculpture ever constructed since, as you can see, it wasn't carved. At one time there was Rodin but Cincinnati wanted this.
Note: there are liberals in Cincinnati but the majority is comprised of stiff-ass conservatives. You see above their sense of art and this is one of many reasons no rock guitarists worth a damn have ever been conservatives.
Curiosity drove a question of whether (cough) sculptor ever did anything which didn't suck therefore showing he was just playing the Midwest rubes in Cincinnati. I was curious if this was his game and here are some examples of his work. He was a German sculptor but it didn't help.
It looks much like a tree, doesn't it. What difference does it make how he tries to pass off the rest of it. Let's hear him make that bullshit pitch to Rodin.
Let me guess ... this is Law not quite intersecting with itself as seen by someone who repairs ducting for air conditioning systems.
So, there's yer answer: he wasn't just playing rubes in Cincinnati, he was playing them all over the place.

Washington DC has a,sculpture garden run by the the Smithsonian full of sculptures like this. Art is in te eye of te beholddr as they say.
My daughter is a fine artist that is what they tell me. I must be conservative as you say as,I understand very little of her work. What I like she says is bullshit masses art
For me, your daughter's work is vastly more expressive than this which isn't much more than homeless plumbing. It's all very well to say failure to appreciate this sculpture is bullshit but that won't stop people from pushing it into the River and I'll be more than happy to help. There isn't much tolerance for freedom to reject bad art and we're even supposed to accept some asshole artist who nailed his peckerwood to Red Square (true).
Your daughter goes beyond any idea pretty is needed for beautiful and musicos will hardly ever do that because experimental music is hardly ever accepted well.
