Here's Some Wow: Huge RC Fokker Triplane (video)

May be one of the most-recognized aircraft ever, if not for the Red Baron then for Snoopy.

The sun shining over this bird's wing as it turns is one beautiful thing to behold.  We don't fly these things, we just like to watch.  Check out the performance after it does some touch-and-go landings and then makes altitude as it climbs back out again.

Here's an entirely different perspective in the book, "The Blue Max," written by Jack D. Hunter which was subsequently turned into a movie starring George Peppard.  I read this quite young and saw the hero of the story was actually a vile bastard and he was deliberately portrayed that way.  The larger view was the inhumanity of war and the loss of the chivalry seen in the early WWI dogfighting.  (WIKI:  The Blue Max)

The shocking part of the book was not mentioned in the WIKI and I did not see the movie so I don't know how well or how it could have been portrayed.  The book was specific as to the sexual excitement the pilot felt in the throes of shooting down enemy aircraft.  Reading this as a young man immediately elicits a horror of just what the hell are people really if that can excite someone in that way.
