Editorial cartoons were much, much better without considerations for Tory propriety and some of the 19th Century editorial cartoons were brutal. This one is mystifying because wtf is a chatelaine? (WIKI: Chatelaine)
I didn't know what one does with a chatelaine and the history of it turned out to be most interesting. It did not include a description of it as used in this cartoon, however. (You may need to click it to see it full size)
