The general theme is kids are taught far too much about obedience and not even fractionally enough about Doctor Dolittle.
Lotho is Doctor Dolittle in Tennessee. lefty Unplugged is Doctor Dolittle in Stockport, UK. Cat has been Doctor Dolittle all her life and she does it in Bavaria now Yevette is ever so pleased at having got an avocado seed to germinate and has now repotted it. I'm not Doctor Dolittle but Toby the Dog and one scrawny ass cat seem to think I'm ok or at least they remember where I feed them.
The diatribe regarding the obedience, the American flag, and the National Anthem can be simplified to a single cartoon.
Make particular note of who is the quarterback (i.e. the leader).
The problems with such an education are obvious and the reason for protest is the almost total absence of focus on Doctor Dolittle and other aspects of integration with the animal environment rather than simple exploitation, etc. The basis for the protest is it's more than a minor convention in a school since it's a fundamental defining of the culture and strongly toward its disablement when it's nothing more than flag-waving and meaningless conventions.
Maybe the better question to ask is why is it in Lotho's nature to encourage bats to come around his yard or to plant bushes which attract bees and butterflies. Is that a natural thing within him, did it come from the cultural, did he learn it in a church?
FUCK THE BUTTERFLIES. SALUTE WHILE THE CAR WITH THE FLAG DRIVES PAST.
Note: salute a flag on a passing vehicle or you will absolutely get an Article 15 for that failing regardless of whether the officer is in the vehicle.
Here at the Rockhouse, we're strongly opposed to teaching obedience but there's not enough emphasis on that which we do support.
You read Doctor Dolittle when you were a kid, right? Maybe you didn't read only the Wizard of Oz but you kept going back to Oz to read more of the travels. From the look of things now, I was lucky to be afforded those opportunities and I don't remember where I found Doctor Dolittle but I know for sure all of the Wizard of Oz books came from the school library. It wasn't even a big school in a big city but I borrowed many, many books from there.
So I don't really understand why I ended up with such a position and many did not. It seems, except for disadvantaged children, the opportunities for me were generally the same as others up until university for which I had clear advantages due to my father teaching. There's a validly arguable idea of the small town being a better place to grow and I do believe that one but I don't see it should be such a huge cultural leap from the city.
How so many were broken into blind obedience is a question for which we will never get any answer because the victims of it really don't understand what happened to them but it's of vastly higher interest to discover how what seems to be an innate and natural need to integrate with the environment in everyone else was either marginalized or subverted altogether ... but not with the subjects of the article. The thought control didn't work with them.

You have a clear advantage due to genes not his teachings. Any Tom Dick or Harriette can go to college.
The debt on the backside is a factor unless they are one of the lucky govt subsidy children.
Cultural or Church. Hmmmm one is part of the other.
But I do it because Mom loved flowers and Dad loved animals.
Oh yeah because the smile of a young child seeing nature for the first time is priceless.
None of that relates to obedience.
It may relate in that we learn to question everything around us with the favorite child question Why?
An answer to a child because that is how it is nevers works. Details are necessary
Seeing a kid discovering what happens when you blow on a dandelion may be one of the most magical experiences life offers. A whole lot of stuff makes sense on seeing something making sense to a child for the first time. Wow, that's how it works. All of those are seeds ... or little fairies, as you like. Sure they're fairies as they became the stars of "Avatar."
No-one in the family did too well with obedience and I attribute that more to spankings than to any cultural aspect or anything else, really.
I had a huge advantage on the debt because of free tuition plus G.I. Bill for books (and ganja). There's another possibility with free travel with an airline job and it could be an interesting discussion as to which provides the most education. Without having done both, I'm not sure anyone could say one is better. I have a taste but I wouldn't call myself a globetrotter by any means. It's tough to top Queen Bee losing her kid in South Africa. It's impossible to invent comedy like that.
