The Democrats are typically regarded as the bourgeoise (i.e. Labor Party in UK) and that was true until the Clintons cashed into the big bucks and started playing for the other team to get yet more money.
The GOP never adjusts to much of anything and they think they can pile on all these Wehrmacht SWAT cops and ride out anything which comes. Yah, simple thinking. Any feudal empire had a lot of cops and all of them, except America, are deceased.
The unusual alignment is with the Trumpites because they're equally broke or at least in nowhere jobs so they're just as much disenfranchised by the rich as the Socialist Left.
Oh, by the way, they have loads and loads of guns.
Unusual really doesn't cover this alignment since America may never have seen it before. Nevertheless, both feel the country was stolen by corruption and that's an obvious assessment to anyone.
The situation has come about previously in world history but it never went well for the rich.
What we have here is a failure to understand the Law of Evolutionary Potential. As the rich farm the workers out to the world, it can only continue for so long because the money they receive from it although paltry individually is huge for whichever country. Once standards of living in the different countries rises, they won't need America anymore because they already know how to make all the stuff.
This is where the Law of Evolutionary Potential applies since those rising countries will build up everything to new standards while America is still wallowing and trapped by their ancient infrastructure and no-one left to rebuild it. The biggest problem is in upgrading the infrastructure to modern standards first requires removing the old and that usually stops it cold. Thus it declines immediately to third world status.
You can see the phenomenon already in high-speed trains and America is trapped by old infrastructure even while it tries to run Accela on it. Relative to efforts in other countries, it's laughable.
Colonization of the world by America has only one possible destination of failure because intimidation will only last so long. You can see their idiotic intimidation in the South China Sea and also in their mindless provocation of Russia. All of those leaders see America never advances beyond WWII thinking and they refuse to be baited to war. Should America start it then the country will be smoked back to the Stone Age, most likely by everywhere else in the world.
(Ed: what about ISIS?)
There's always some fool willing to take the bait but you see the contempt from the rest of the world regarding America for doing it. The French followed that model in Syria and lost respect everywhere, even within their own country.
The consequence of failure to recognize the level of disenfranchisement in both sides and the consequent attempt to jack another election cannot possibly go well, regardless of whether Democrats do it with Clinton or the GOP does it with Trump. Obviously this is the argument of consequences but the reality of it is clear enough. There's one shit ton of angry people in the country and they're all the lower classes from both parties. Any idea it would be clever to further piss off that class is too simplistic to consider, particularly when this time they're heavily-armed.
(Ed: why do you use expressions like 'shit ton' when your vocabulary is much better than that?)
I dig the NASCAR dialect, man. I do as it's clear, specific, and colorful.
The more colors to the language, the more interesting and wide-ranging it gets. It's what people do and I damn sure don't want to be an English professor.
